This is a blog for people who teach Spanish, and who like talking about issues and problems from their courses, and ideas on how to be a better Spanish college professor.

Unbloggable
Is that even a word? It is weird. In the past month, I went from not blogging because I didn't have much to say, to "Damn I need to vent but I cannot write about any of the things that are bothering me". I'll just say that this whole place went from being normal and as rational as possible, to absolutely burocratic, chaotic and insane in a period of two months. And no, it is not related to my tenure (so far, at least). I am incredibly frustrated, for a variety of reasons.

oh boy, a post with this title is such a teaser & makes me oh, so curious! :) In any case, I hope things get less chaotic soon.
ReplyDelete(I am very, VERY bitter today, so please, please forgive me if I'm being snarky) And please be thankful that you even have to worry about tenure, etc. Most of us won't ever know what that is and simply wonder whether we'll even have a job next semester. sigh...
L, be as snarky and bitter as you want. There is a whole bunch of things, but what sent me over the edge was being told: "No, you can't teach the course you've been designing since December (and did plenty of research on), because the proposal is insufficient. And now there isn't enough time". Good, except that if somebody had told me last Friday (or two weeks ago), I would have freaking modified it. And because of rotation issues, who knows when I'll get the chance again. That is just the tip of the iceberg.
ReplyDeleteGod, I hate when I do a ton of work and it ends up being a waste of time. There's nothing worse. With this job being as busy as it is, you really have to work with total efficiency much of the time. And the course issue you describe in the comment is such a blow! Ugh! I'm happy to hash out issues over email if you need a sympathetic ear!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I might take you up on your offer.
